A Copywriter's Tale

It all began with a slogan on a fishing lure package: Throw a Burke where they lurk. I was five, the lure was a present, and I was hooked. Now fast forward to those wild days (and nights) in a swanky Park Avenue tower, hobnobbing with marketing’s elite. (And if you’ve ever hobnobbed, you know nothing beats it.)

Along the way, I peddled jewelry, sold newspapers, and drove cars off showroom floors faster than you could say “extended warrantee.” “Limited time only”? That was mine. So was “Satisfaction guaranteed.” And I was the first to spell out “Period.” (The happy result of a jammed keycap.)

But you’re not here just to read about my writing exploits. You want facts, names, like the brands I’ve worked on. Keep it short and sweet, they say. So here goes:

T-Mobile  •  Microsoft  •  Volvo  •  Nordstrom  •  American Express  •  Expedia  •  Cadillac  •  Pella Windows  •  Westin Hotels  •  Tom’s of Maine  •  Swarovski Jewelry  •  Maxell  •  Diadora  •  Western Union  •  Perdue Foods  •  Allied Carpets  •  Starfish  •  Trident Seafoods  •  Rally’s  •  NYU  •  The Seattle Times and Seattle P-I
